Joe C Legg, 57 of Stone Mountain, passed on from this life on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, in Lawrenceville, GA His final days were spent in the fellowship of his family and friends.

Joe was born on July 17, 1953 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Ralph and Elette Legg. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Paula Kay Legg; his son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Kami Legg; his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter: Johnathan, Karen, and Eva Legg; his daughter and son-in-law: Mary and Daniel Cowan; his son: James Legg; his son: Christopher Legg; his brother, sister-in-law, and nephew: Jim, Becky, and Nathan Legg.

Joe graduated from Shades Valley High school, and was active in athletics. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Samford University, and also studied  at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago, IL, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.

For over 30 years, he worked for Mercer Transportation Company, through which he owned an associated agency. His son, Joseph works for him in his home office.

Joe and Kay home-schooled all five of their children, which led to many deep family friendships with neighbors and fellow home-schoolers, especially through the Master’s Academy of Fine Arts and the Artios Academies. His family has attended Grace Fellowship Church for 11 years and has developed friendships there as well as many long-standing relationships from Northside Community Church, East Gate Congregation, and other church families. Joe was an excellent conversationalist and was always interested in people. He made friends quickly and loved them deeply. He was a life-long learner, always picking up new skills and hobbies, ranging from scrap-booking to gardening and web design.

This is has been the hardest week of my life.
I have worked with Joe for 20 years. I spent more time with him than I did my own family. He was without a doubt the finest man I have ever known. Did he ever make me mad “YEP” but after a while I learned what buttons not to push and he did the same with me. He was the best BOSS anyone could ever have….and probably the best friend anyone could have. He was always there for me no matter what my situation was, as was his family too. he was more than a boss he was my FRIEND. I do miss him so so much………and will always.
There has been many many phone calls and well wishes and prayers from the mercer family….not only to his family but to me also and I would like to Thank you all.

Joe was great to work with and I hauled many loads for him, he used to call me sometimes on the weekends just to talk, not about work, but about life and family. He will be missed and remembered as one of the good guys, more people could learn from his example of how to treat people. The best to his family and small but important staff of the Atlanta agency. God speed Joe!
