More and more of you are starting to use the computer, and anytime I find a helpful website for you, I like to pass it on. Heidi came across a website that you can use to calculate the exact cost of the tolls you will have on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. You will have to select where you will enter, and exit the turnpike, and also choose your vehicle weight, and amount of axles. It will then give you a cost for your tolls. Here’s the link http://www.paturnpike.com/toll/tollmileage.aspx
UPDATE: There is a scheduled detour on the turnpike this weekend. Here is the news directly from their website.
Attention motorists, please be advised of a planned detour this weekend on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Interstate 76, between the Irwin (Exit 67) and New Stanton (Exit 75) Interchanges. Eastbound traffic will be detoured off of the Turnpike at Irwin, and westbound traffic will be detoured off at New Stanton. The closure will begin at midnight Saturday, November 14th and last until Sunday, November 15th at approximately 3AM, so crews can erect an overhead sign structure at milepost 73.9. More specific detour routes to re-enter the Turnpike will be available at the time of the closure. Motorists should plan for additional travel time & delays if traveling through the area during this time.

I think about all the states do that and bridge tolls also. I guess I might add, the easiest way I’ve found to obtain the info is a simple Google search, something like the name of the road or bridge followed by “toll rates”.

There are calculators at most of the states turnpike or toll road home pages. They all come in very handy.

Jason thanks putting this on the blog! Thanks Heidi for finding this link! This brings up a point why when contractors refuse to take a load up to or from the east coast, and has to run miles across the Penna TP they almost run them miles for free
Ohio state line to Del river bridge 356 miles
The toll across there for 62,001-80,000 LBS vehicle is $147.50.
Next we come to fuel for the truck By the way flying J at Smithton, pa (which is one of the few we get no discount) is around $2.85 to $3.00 per gallon.
$147.50 (Toll) / 356 miles = .41 per mile
356 miles @ 6 MPG=59 gals @ 2.95 per gal $174.05
147.50 + 174.05= $321.55 for toll and fuel
$321.55 / 356 miles =.90 CPM
Then we have shippers that will be very generous and pay us 1.20 per mile to haul freight. That leaves .30cpm for the contractor, truck, and maint. These figures a just an average we know freight usually pays a little bettter going east from the midwest, but then I have been offered freight for .99 cpm per mile from the east coast too! Sometime we might be able to haul a lighter load and get by with less toll charge. I would like to see some post from Agents and Contractors what they think about my post and please feel free to check my math, because my mind wanders while Carol is driving and I surf the web. thanks #7439
